A Brief Guitar History

It may be difficult to believe, but the modern instruments known today as guitars have been around in one form or another for about the last five millenia. However, it wasn't until the last 500 years that these instruments began to shape into anything you would recognize as a guitar today.

It wasn't until around the 1800s that the forbearers of the modern six-string acoustic guitars were first produced. The electric guitar made its first serious debut around 1936 with the introduction of the Rickenbacker, an instrument that would later inspire a man named John Lennon to write some of the world's greatest songs.

Since those early days, it has all been a quest to develop better guitars with perfect action and truer tones. Even now, the quest continues.

Guitar Types

Although most players start out with a traditional nylon acoustic guitar while they're still learning to play, there are a number of other guitars you can branch out to when you're ready.
